Baviera Golf

The most easterly golf course in the province, Baviera Golf is situated 2km east of Torre del Mar on the coastline municipality of Velez Malaga, with magnificent views of the Mediterranean and the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Designed by twice World Champion Jose Maria Cañizares, this 18 hole, par 72 course was opened in 2000, is 5910m long and presents an ideal challenge for all types of handicap and both novice and professional players.

Baviera Golf consists of mainly level and wide fairways of 80 to 90 m wide without climbs or drops, with short holes, fast, large wide greens of an average 700m with slopes and swales and an abundant selection of interesting water features. The course has some surprises in store to keep players on their toes and intelligence and strategy are the name of the game here.

The signature hole is the 4th; a par 5 of 500m, where 2 lakes come into play, one covering an expanse of 15,000m2 and the other protecting entry to the green.

The ninth hole is one of the most difficult, a par three heading upwards. A well hit ball must fly over a stream and a lake on the lower end, and fall on a green with a narrow approach. If the shot falls short, the only option is an Alpine approach, sharply upwards from the high rough. To the left, bushes and plants, and to the right, more slopes to contend with.

The 11th is a pleasure to play. This is a beautiful par five, sloping downwards with the sea in the distance and surrounded by beautiful, natural vegetation. The tee-off requires power, with water to the right and out on the left, making for a narrow fairway that requires accuracy.

Baviera Golf is part of a very attractive residential development. A village of new villas, townhouses and apartments has been built around the golf course; all situated just metres away from the Caleta beach, marina and fishing port.

The comfortable hotel at the course provides a perfect base for exploring golf in the Granada, eastern Malaga and southern Almeria regions.

Golfers can partake in lessons at the golf school and add to their golfing equipment and wardrobe at the Pro. Golf Shop. Clubs, electric and manual trolleys and buggies can all be hired from the clubhouse, where visitors can also make use of the changing rooms. As well as an ample driving range, visiting golfers have access to putting and chipping greens.
