Lauro Golf
Only 12km inland from Malaga airport, Lauro Golf is the ideal first or last course to play for holidaying golfers. Constructed in parkland style over a relatively flat plateau 1000 ft above sea level, the course overlooks the Mediterranean and is adjoined by the nature reserve of the Sierra de Mijas…. a truly breathtaking and peaceful location .Opened in 1992, this well matured course has 3 separate loops of 9 holes each.
The 1st to the 18th were designed by the late Falco Nordi, with holes 19 to 27 added later by Mariano Benitez, effectively giving the Los Caracolillos course, as it is also known, more appeal to a broader range of players. Both the Andalucian Junior and Senior Finals have been hosted here.
Lauro Golf has some of the best greens on the coast, with olive lined fairways and 8 lakes incorporated as water hazards at the 9th, 14th, 17th and 18th to keep you alert and on your toes. It is not a particularly demanding course and can be enjoyably played by less experienced players. With the exception of the 4th, which because of a steep incline to the green looks deceptively short, there are no hidden surprises. The holes, each named after famous bullfighters, offer a good variety of lengths. It is a good course on which to relax and enjoy your golf. Three different combinations of play are possible over the 72 par course.
The Lauro Golf Clubhouse is a magnificent, fully restored 200 year old cortijo style country house, complete with authentic Spanish patio where you can enjoy drinks and food overlooking the grounds. The clubhouse facilities include the hire of buggies, trolleys, golf cars, caddies and clubs, dressing rooms with showers, sauna and lockers and a Pro. Shop. The club also has open and covered driving ranges, pitching and putting greens and group lessons available at the golf school.
